Here to Stay: Harvard Union and Immigrant Workers Speak Out!

Date:

Wednesday, February 28, 2018, 3:00pm to 4:00pm

Location:

John Harvard Statue, Harvard Yard

Join us to send a message that union workers and immigrant and communities of color are #HereToStay! We will gather to show our strength and solidarity in opposition to Trump's targeting of unions, immigrant residents with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), as well as Islamic and other communities under attack.

Between anti-union "Right to Work" legislation and Janus v. AFSCME (the union of Harvard's clerical workers, which is being sued in the Supreme Court, a case that could severely impede all union organizing in the US) and the opposition to graduate students' efforts to organize here, workers' rights are under attack from DC to Harvard. The termination of TPS is also part of this assault on workers' rights: Harvard's most active unions are largely immigrant. TPS and DACA impact many of the same families. Often parents have TPS, their children, DACA. Separating these issues eases tearing families apart with deportations. Trump has also targeted Muslims with travel bans that have subjected Islamic communities to discrimination and the same threats to their residency. We are united against this destructive campaign of intimidation and fear. We are one community.
