Martha Bonilla arrived in the United States from El Salvador in 1994 and she and her husband Felipe have worked hard for a better life for their family. Until the decision to terminate TPS, Martha felt that she had a chance at the American Dream. Since her arrival, she has taken the opportunity to further her education, to own a home and raise her beautiful children, Luis, Diana and Daniela, in a safe place. She has worked at Harvard for 17 years in the dining halls and can be found at Dudley House in the evenings. Now, with the decision to cancel the TPS program for El Salvador, she is worried about the thousands of families like hers and the American children like her own who are affected. Martha feels that her home country is not a safe environment, especially for kids, and that ending the TPS program is not like the American values she has known for the 23 years she been a resident and valued member of our community. Martha is a member of Comité TPS Massachusetts and will travel to Washington DC in February to lobby for permanent residency for TPS holders with the National TPS Alliance.
